Generation 1 - Glock 17

I saw on another forum a generation 1 glock 17 selling for CRAZY money

I do not wish to sell mine, but what am I missing? What would make a generation 1 glock 17 worth significantly more than any other?

I like it, but would not pay 100's over a new gen 5 to get an old gen 1

have they hit collectable nostalgia type value at this point?

Proper Gen 1s were produced in very limited numbers - therefore their value has shot up as a collector's item.

Collector value I understand, just did not think there was any reason it was collectable.

I stopped shooting it a few years back because I found out I liked Poly 80's better, I guess I will just keep it safe until I feel a need to sell it.
