Mine was an early 70s Savage Model 24 .22/410. Bought at a pawn shop to be my first gun. Same day my Dad got himself a Savage 99. Both in my safe, never to be parted with, waiting to be passed down to my nephews.

My father bought a Marlin 39A in about 1950 or 51. It’s the one year that had the brass “peanut” on the grip cap. This was the original model 39A, not the Golden version with the shallow rifling. By the mid 50’s, I had kinda sorta inherited the Marlin. I still have it. I have never seen the need to purchase another .22 rifle. Extremely accurate, totally reliable, even when mixing cartridge lengths. I don’t believe a better sporting .22 rifle has ever been made, and durn few as good. When I sell off my gun collection, it will likely be the very last to go.

It was an Ithaca M-29 lever action falling block single shot that was chambered for .22 short, long and long rifle and made in 1973. Many a squirrel and rabbit have been taken with that rifle. I passed it onto my brother who gave it to my son. After my son passed away I gave the rifle to my brother's son who still has it as far as I know.

Savage Springfield Model 120 single shot .22 bolt action. My Uncle gave it to me when I was 14. I passed it on to my nephew years later so it's still in the family.

Awesome memory. I still have my dad’s Savage 24. Handy and accurate enough.
