Does anyone on the forum have an experience with the PTR 91, HK91 / G3 clone. I've wanted one since the 80's but could never afford one.

I have a buddy with an early HK sr9. The “civilian” version of the 91. Kinda like the MR556 vs HK416.

It is a good, reliable shooter, like any HK pistol or rifle I’ve owned/shot. Personally wasn’t a fan of the claw scope mount and I’m not convinced it would hold zero very well (no experience or first hand knowledge).

I’d say go with a a solid AR10 if you want a semi auto 762....maybe even a 6.5mm CM.

I have one of the early, JLD Enterprises PTR-91.
They should go for around $1k...maybe a little less for a good deal. Magazines were dirt cheap, but are starting to creep up in price (I bought 30 mags for $150/steel & AL).
Might shoots well, it has a welded standard mil rail...I have not handguards. The issue, with all battle rifles (FAL also) is the trigger...but they can be upgraded / smoothed out.
What would you like to know??

Great guns all around. Rock solid, rugged and reliable although a bit heavy compared to an Ar platform. I second the damaging brass comment. My HK91 and my Galil both pretty much render it unreloadable.

I have owned 2 HK 91s and 2 PTR 91s. The HKs were extremely accurate and reliable but I found them to be front heavy and awkward. I would personally recommend just getting a nice AR 10.

Yes, HK 91 pre ban, absolutely awesome weapon. I had some trigger work done and you could rattle off a 20 rnd mag rocking the trigger.
As mentioned with the costs of orig HK 91 and even PTR. Mind you this was back in early 1990 when HK 91 could be had for $650 to $700 weapon only usually.

Get a good AR 10 and save some money.
Even after owning one and loving it, I wouldn't pay upwords of $3k for an HK 91 today.

If money wasn't a consideration I'd get into that platform, but in the day and age of slapping uppers and lowers together the AR10 is definitely the way to go. Find ammo for it is another issue all together.

I had a PTR91. Found some original wood G3 furniture on gunbroker, it looked great. It also shot well. As stated above the fluted chamber can be rough on brass. So I just shot cheap steel cased Tulammo .308 in it.
