My late grandfather, a successful representative of that noteworthy Greatest Generation of Americans, at one time owned a Smith & Wesson .22LR revolver that I suspect was much like this one.
A pilot in the USAAF in WW2 and later a businessman, he owned a very small number of firearms that he’d said would go to me at his passing. I remember seeing, IIRC, a Winchester lever-action, but understood that what I would later learn was called a “K-22” was also in the mix. He did a little hunting and some plinking in the high desert but not much beyond that from what I know.
In any case, after his death, the guns never materialized. That pales in comparison, of course - I’d rather have him back than any of his possessions. Still, the notion of his K-22 always struck me as the “gem” of his arms.
Not too long ago, an older K-22 came up for sale and I was able to get it. It’s in quite good condition for a 1947-vintage revolver. No box and no papers - and “no problem,” as the song (sort of) goes, as my interest was in invoking good memories and in shooting. Toward the latter, this gun provides an excellent platform toward honing double-action revolver shooting.
While clean here, this gun is often quite dirty as it’s a lot of just plain fun to shoot!
