I inherited this old m16 training rifle a long time ago, and was wondering if it's worth anything or if people really collect them? I've found a few that sold over the years but none exactly like this one.

The flash hider/ birdcage is broken, it kind of looks like someone tried to unscrew it or something. It could be fixed pretty easily though I'm assuming. I've heard that these were made with de-milled rifles but I'm pretty sure everything on this is rubber except the stock (wood?) and the barrel (metal). Oh and the bayonet mount on the bottom of the front sight is metal, in assuming these were for bayonet training or something.

I guess they're pretty cool looking and could maybe be useful for films or something.

It says TUSA FT. GORDON on the stock, and the lower says "COLT AR-15 PROPERTY OF U.S. GOVT. M16A1 CAL. 5.56 MM. SERIAL 804005"

Gotta love that the selector is set to AUTO all the time, haha!

Thanks for looking!

That's pretty neat. Never seen one before. I'm sure someone would love to have that in their military memorabilia collection. I have a old military cabinet with some grenades, helmets ect. That would look pretty cool leaning against it. You planning on selling?

Oh yeah, I'm currently in the process of selling a lot of stuff. Gotta make room for baby stuff.

I have seen one of these at a gun auction in PA a decade or so ago. That one had a rubber bayonet with it as well. Definitely an interesting item.

Any chance you remember about how much it was? I'm struggling to come up with a number lol.

Well this information is dated plus the auction item did have the bayonet. I think it went for around $500 but I’m honestly fuzzy on the exact number. I do remember it because I thought it was an odd item at an auction in PA those days that had lots of odd/unusual firearm items.

Might be a good idea to post it on the ar15 forum as there are some serious collectors there that may have a more recent value.

Huh, that is the first I've heard of that forum. I may have to go set up an account and see what I can figure out. Thanks!

Just saw this comment, woah I was thinking if I could get $300 I'd be a very happy man! Honestly I'd trade straight up for 10oz silver or a gold Dos Peso coin haha!

When I was an active member in my local VFW we were told that we needed a rubber duck to make a display. I took it on myself to find one, long story short I was in a pawnshop and a guy happened to over hear me asking about one. We made arrangements and I went to Hurlbert Field where he worked and the USAF donated one to us. At one time I remember seeing them at every surplus shop around here but when I started looking for one there was no such thing. Ebay at the time had some but they aren’t cheap. I built the base for it and this is where it is today. I found that they demand a good price from $300.00 to $500.00

I have been Collecting Militaria for over 45 years, served in the U.S. Army/Army Reserve for 41 years and am a Life Member of the Alabama Military Collectors' Association. These typically bring between $ 100 and $ 250 when Offered for Sale, with about $ 150 being the average or median price. Yours is 'Early' and marked with the Colt logo / emblem and detailed but has some damage. I would go to a Militaria Show and try to Sell it or Offer it on Gunbroker or Ebay, start at $ 150 or "Make Offer". Just my Advice.
