First, I do not own a .458 Socom so this based upon what I've read and been told. I would be very concerned about over penetration with the .458 indoors. The shotguns we have set up for HD are loaded with #4 buckshot. There is a huge debate on shotgun ammo for home defense with many saying 00 buck and or slugs is the only way, but again I worry about over penetration with either of those. #4 buckshot or even something like a #6 birdshot is safer indoors and will still be lethal at home defense ranges.
