I am starting to get a few firearms and I am finding my self hording them rather then selling them. How do you keep up with your firearm paperwork and serial numbers?
I have an Excel spreadsheet I keep for mine and my dad's guns with separate tabs for pistols, rifles, and shotguns with fields in each for the manufacturer/importer, model name and/or number, caliber, and serial number. I try to keep it up to date and add or remove items as they're bought or sold within a day or two of it happening. I also keep a spreadsheet for my ammo to keep track of calibers and round count.
Thats what I just made was a spreadsheet but I used google docs and Im keeping it on my drive just in case someone breaks in and takes my firearms and my laptop.
I did think about ammo. But I did
Maker and Model, Date Purchased, Serial Number, Value, Purhcased/Trade
I use an app called Gun Safe. Very simple to use. It'll let you store pics as well as the data in case you ever needed a serial number on the go. Also has a ammo tracker and even range day tracking. The paid version is reasonable and highly recommended.
I actually bought an FFL book gun stores use off Amazon. Has manufacturer, model, serial number, gun type. Keeps everything numbered and really easy to keep track.
