Sometimes loading and shooting a full mag of ammo after a full mag after ANOTHER full mag gets a little monotonous to me, so most range trips I try to mix things up a bit, literally and figuratively.
I usually work with at least 3 mags at a time. I'll load 1 round to the first, 2 to the second, and 3 to the third (or any variation one might want, there's no "best" way here). If I'm alone, I'll scramble the mags up and slip two to my mag pouches and one into the pistol. (If shooting with a buddy, have them mix-up the mags for you).
As I start shooting, I don't know how exactly many rounds I have on-board at a given time; thus, I'm "forced" into mag changes along the way.
It makes you practice reloading and seems to stretch a box of ammo a little longer shooting just a few rounds at a time like this.
