If you’re using an AR for home defense or duty - what’s your ammo choice and why?

I like a 55gr soft-point because they're more likely to break apart and deliver maximum energy to the target (instead of going through like a green-tip or FMJ is more likely to do).

Like @Tuscaloser I use .223 soft-point. Have had some good old Hornady TAP before, as well.

I use 55gr Hornady VMax to minimize over penetration.

55 grain HP Varmint round. Ballistic tip 55 grain varmint rounds next. The ULTIMATE Home Defense .223 round WAS the Federal 40 Grain Prairie Dog round. Federal stopped making it about 15 years ago. Devastating on flesh and muscle but would disintegrate in two sheets of drywall. Important in a house, apartment or mobile home. Used to carry a 20 round mag of it in my Mini-14 when I was an Investigator in mid 90's. Had a 30 round mag of Federal Classic SP on the stock

Currently have barnes triple shocks loaded up. They have worked in every other caliber for me.
