Hey Guys,

As a new forum I am adding some discussion post for us to talk about.

What is your favorite caliber?

.45Acp primary with the 9mm occasionally. I prefer the Springfield Armory XD/XDM. Although I have sufficient store bought ammo, I have begun loading my own .45 and prefer these to the production ones. Carry ammo is either Hornady Critical Defense or Critical Duty. XD 4" or XDs 3.3 in .45 is preferred carry.

9mm seems to work out well for me. However my wife's .380 is a good plinker. I guess it would depend on what I'm doing lol!!

I carry a 9mm but my wifes 380 is carried sometimes also. She never went to get her permit. So It gets used from time to time.

In rifles it would be my .308 caliber Steyr SSG69 for up to 600 yds shooting.
Pistols, My H&K VP9 9mm.
Revolvers, Cimarron Peacemaker copy in .45 Colt loaded with Black Powder cartridges

Pistol: 45 for knock down power, but in full disclosure, my tuck gun is a 40.

Assault: 5.56 because of availability and what all you can do to customize an AR

Rifle: either 30.06 or .308 because of knockdown and availability

Handgun: 9mm, cheap, higher capacity, modern hollow point ammo makes it plenty lethal and overall performs better than .45
Hunting rifle: .308 it just works as do many other calibers
Fighting rifle: 5.56 as long as your using the correct ammo (m193) it creates a great wound cavity due to its tumbling

In a handgun, it's 9mm for me.

For Carbine it's the ubiquitous 5.56/.223...typically SBR'd and usually suppressed but I do have a couple of precision ARs around.

For anything much larger than 5.56 I switch to a bolt-gun and shoot .308 and 6.5 Creedmoor typically.

I started out in the '80's with a 6" S&W 686 working security, when they would let me carry my own gun, the company I worked for issued me an old S&W Police Positive that No-One could hit the side of a barn with, LOL. In 1997 I bought a S&W 457 .45 and carried it until March of this year when I sold it back to the close friend and LEO that I bought it from in '97. In the last couple of years I had also been carrying a S&W SD40-VE that had belonged to one of my step-sons. I have now converted from S&W to a Glock 17 Gen 3 and I LOVE IT!!!! I shoot better with it than anything that I have ever carried! WOW, Can't believe that I waited this long to get a Glock! 9mm RULES!

Side Arm: 9mm Critical Duty, Glock 17
Hunting: 30-30 Silver-Tips, Winchester 94XTR
Sniping: 7.62×39mm, Chinese SKS

For me it is about cost mainly. Years ago I shot mostly 45 ACP having 2 1911 in that caliber. Then 380 because I have a PPK that was my main CCW. Then when I started doing USPSA I went 40S&W and still shoot those 2011 pistols. Then of course 22LR. Have a Ruger MK II Target that I've had nearly 40 years.
I now shoot mostly 9mm as I have 3 pistols chambered for that caliber. 40S&W but running low on brass and 45 sometimes.
